Elementary Program

  • Three classes per grade
  • Teachers’ aides in all grades, so that students have more 1-on- 1 time with an educator
  • Recess break each day in grades 1-5
  • “Specials” breakout classes for all students
    • Kindergarten students have Library, PE, Art, and Spanish-language exposure
    • Grades 1-5 enjoy Spanish, Brain Gym, PE, Tech, Art, Music, Library
  • Field trips that are fun and also support lessons learned in IB units.
    • Kindergarten students have visited the zoo, farm, museum of art
    • Grades 1-5 examples include snowshoeing, ice castles, Red Butte Gardens, water treatment plant, and Thanksgiving Point.
  • Nutritious hot lunch program with 2-3 choices each day
  • School uniform policy helps ensure focus on learning
  • Kindergarten is taught in a self-contained setting with separate playground and bathrooms
  • Big-kid mentors help and motivate the Kindergarten students
    • 5th -graders read with their “Book Buddies”
    • 8th -graders help teach research skills

Middle School Program

  • Spanish, art, music and technology classes in addition to traditional core subjects
  • Small classes – usually 15-20 students
  • Hands-on, inquiry-based learning, develops critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Opportunity to be part of a team in basketball, cross country, soccer and volleyball
  • Consistently high middle school RISE scores
  • Field trips that bring learning units to life, including:
    • Science exploration trips – Hogle Zoo, laser tag, The Leonardo
    • 8th grade Moab field trip
  • Parties and dances
  • 8th grade Community Projects
    • Students investigate a social issue, make a plan to help, take action, then reflect
    • Encourages students to research and become critical thinkers
    • Prepares students to do research in high school and allows them to have real-world impact
  • Opportunities to be involved in Student Council and Yearbook staff
  • Strong showing in regional and state science fairs; Channing Hall students have earned eCYBERMISSION grants worth more than $10,000 over the past few years.
  • Mock interviews that prepare students for real life
  • Students leave prepared to excel in high school and college
